DIAGNOdent is a tool that is used by Dr. Petinge to identify the presence of decay before it is visible to the naked eye. This laser technology has proven to be highly effective at detecting early decay formation.
DIAGNOdent is a pen-like probe that emits a safe and painless laser beam into the tooth to measure what is termed internal fluorescence (the wavelength of the laser is 655 nm). Two-way optics serve to quantify the amount of light reflected from the tooth.
Diagnodent helps find cavities that are easily missed by x-rays and are cannot be seen during a typical dental examination.
DIAGNOdent readings between zero and 14 indicate a healthy occlusal surface, readings between 15 and 20 suggest the presence of a cavity, while a reading more than 20 indicates the presence of dentinal caries.
